Writing this now, it feels like Thanksgiving was ages ago. But regardless of the timing of this post, I hope that you had a great November.
Here’s a belated Thanksgiving dinner pic.
I was 100% NYC based for the past month, so no travel stories to tell in this one. I did, however bounce around the city quite a bit and got to do some fun stuff.
Looking at my November calendar, I’m realizing that there are way too many small things that I was up to and not enough time to write about each one individually, so I’ll give a small sampling here and honestly I did not take as many pictures as I should have so putting in pics where I can.
NYC Marathon - No, I didn’t run the marathon, but the route goes right by our apartment. This year our friend Ellen ran the marathon, so we lined up along the street to cheer her on. Congratulations Ellen!
Red Hot Hockey - Every year, the Cornell hockey team plays a game in Madison Square Garden the weekend after Thanksgiving. They played Boston University. Both school colors are red, which is why they call it “Red Hot”. I went to the game with Cindy and Nikhil this year and it was a blast. Here’s a short video to give you an idea.
Vulfpeck Concert - Not sure how many of y’all have heard of the band Vulfpeck, but Cindy and I like their music, so we went and saw them play at the Avant Gardner, a local Brooklyn music venue.
Luc’s Studio - You may remember I made a YouTube video with my pal Luc this past summer. He creates music for films, and he recently gave me a tour of a new music studio that he’s been working in. It was cool to check out the equipment and talk a little shop about music production tech.
Birthday Clubbing - We celebrated our friend Julia’s birthday in November. She rented out a club in Manhattan for the party, so we got to party it up and do some dancing. It was a wild night and lots of fun.
New Favorite Jacket - The weather has been really variable in New York, but there have been some nice cooler days where I’ve gotten a chance to wear this jacket I bought from my ex-coworker. It fits pretty well, and I like the style, so I thought I’d include a little mirror selfie from this past month for fun.
Career updates
No good news yet. I’m still on the hunt for a new job. While I have gotten a lot of referrals and callbacks, the job market for software engineers is definitely in a slump right now.
It’s a bummer to get most of the way through an interview process and have the company go with another candidate. There’s not much to be done about it though other than to continue to study for interviews and send out as many applications as possible. The hiring pipeline only moves as fast as the hiring teams move, so it’s good to have patience.
That’s all for this one. Looking ahead, it’s exciting to see the holidays getting into full swing. I’ll be in Chicago for the holidays this year, so expect some travel stuff in the next one. Thank you for reading!
Very cool Ian!!
